About the Program

Finally, a professional development program and an exceptional opportunity for elite Jewish day school leaders from across the world.

Join and meet other colleagues from around the world for an opportunity to learn together -- and from each other -- as you continue to hone your craft and skills!

Combining online sessions and in-person meetings, join a diverse cohort of reflective practitioners facing similar challenges and opportunities.

The program will span 3 semesters beginning November, 2023, combining 2-3 online sessions each semester, an in-person seminar in Israel and in a European Jewish community.

Cost for the entire program (including airfare and in-person seminars in Israel and Europe) is $2,000

(In special cases there will be additional financial aid.

Who is it for?

This program is designed for heads of Jewish day school with at least 3 years of experience who are vision-driven educational leaders.

Participants will

Learn from an international cohort of leading Jewish educators
Travel to in-person seminars in Israel and Europe
Study cutting-edge material with internationally acclaimed instructors and educational leaders
Provide input on the subject matter to be included in the program
Do clinical observations of schools in Israel and Europe
Receive monthly sessions from outstanding mentors
Develop a project to be implemented in their school
Receive a certificate from Herzog College, UnitED, and the Israel Ministry of Education
Become part of a community of practice with global colleagues

Team

Dr. David I. Bernstein

Director of the Herzog Fellows program

He is the Dean Emeritus of the Pardes Institute for Jewish Studies and was Director of Midreshet Lindenbaum for 11 years.. Before making aliyah, he served on the faculty of the Ramaz High School, where he pioneered an integrated world/ Jewish history curriculum.  He also served as the Educational Director of Student Activities.  At Pardes, he also played an important role in creating, developing and overseeing the Pardes Day School Educators Program, which has produced almost 200 Jewish studies teachers. David spent two years studying at the Mandel School's Jerusalem Fellows program, as well as a year in the Senior Educators program at the Melton Center for Jewish Education in the Diaspora at the Hebrew University. He has taught internationally and often serves as scholar-in-residence for Jewish heritage trips to historic European Jewish communities.

Rabbi Scot A. Berman

Director of English Speaking Countries, UnitEd

Rabbi Scot A. Berman has over 30 years in the fields of Jewish education and Jewish communal life. He has served in many educational capacities including elementary, secondary, university, and adult education.   Berman has served as principal of a number of Jewish schools and founded during his career two Jewish high schools.  He also served as Executive Director of a multi-million-dollar family foundation.  Currently, Berman is the Director of English-Speaking Countries for UnitEd, an initiative of the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs in partnership with Herzog College to help support the work of Jewish day schools throughout the world.  Berman received Rabbinical Ordination (Semicha) from Hebrew Theological College, Skokie, IL, and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University, Chicago, IL.  He also spent two years in Israel on Fellowship as a participant in the Jerusalem Fellows. Rabbi Berman is author of Learning Talmud, and a number of published articles on Jewish education and Jewish communal matters.

Hana Dorsman

CEO, UnitEd

MSW in social work. Graduated from the Mandel School for Educational Leadership. Have worked in nonprofit management and a volunteer advisor to entrepreneurs and directors of social and nonprofit organizations. She was CEO of Educating for Excellence (E4E): a non-profit organization that empowers and promotes equal opportunities for children and adolescents from Israel's socio-economic and geographic periphery.

Dr. Howard Deitcher

Chair of the UnitEd Advisory Committee

Rabbi Dr. Howard Deitcher is a Professor Emeritus and former director at the Melton Centre for Jewish Education in the Seymour Fox School of Education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  He serves as the Senior Director of Teacher Institutes at the Melton Centre, Hebrew University, and chairs the UnitEd Advisory Committee. He is an executive member of the Israeli Centre for Philosophy for Children and has published numerous articles, co-edited four books, and produced six teaching guides that are being used in schools in Israel and around the world. His current areas of research include: Philosophy for Children in Jewish Education, Spirituality in the Lives of Jewish Students, and Moral Education in the Lives of Young Children.

Dr. Tzachi Lev-Ran

Head of Academy - Field Department, Herzog College

Dr. Tzachi Lev-Ran manages Herzog College's connections with the education system in Israel and around the world - practical training for students, internships for young teachers and professional development for teachers and School principals.
Previously, he worked for 10 years as a teacher and ran a high school in Beit Shemesh for another 9 years.
Tzachi Lev-Ran worked at Avnei Rasha, the Israeli Leadership Institute, and is an expert in the field of mentoring and professional development of teachers and school principals.
